Tomatoes

Tomatoes are versatile and add such a depth of flavor to dishes.  They come in heirloom varieties from deep burgundy to bright yellow, to green, and even striped.  They can be eaten raw, added to salads, enjoyed sun dried, roasted, stewed, added to dishes, so many options!  With such a variety, it's easy to enjoy!

Tomatoes should be a part of our diet every day!  Add them to stews, juice them, slice them over eggs in the morning, add them to salads, toss them in stir fries, cook them into a sauce, stuff them, roast them.  By themselves or paired with other foods, Tomatoes are delicious!

Baby Grape Tomato varieties include Baby Grape Tomatoes, Santa Sweets, and Sweet 100s.  Grape tomatoes are more flavorful (and slightly more expensive) than the Cherry Tomato so we tend to offer these.  They can be added to salads whole or snacked on as well as roasted whole for a sweet intense tomato flavor.

Mixed Medley Baby Tomatoes add a sweet taste and splashes of orange, red and yellow color to salads with the Yellow Pear Tomatoes, Orange Round Tomatoes, Cherry Tomatoes, and Grape Tomatoes (sweet); there are even mini-baby tomatoes.  Toss them over your salad or toss them in olive oil and salt and roast them at 400 for 20 minutes for a delicious sweet side dish.

Orange Cherry Tomatoes are sweet and add a splash of color!  Snack on them right out of the box!
Heirloom varieties come in a many sizes and shapes, and a range of colors including red (more acidic), yellow (sweeter), pink, purple, black, white, brown, orange, green, and even stripes (yellow with red stripes have a wonderful flavor), and are delicious!  When you have a chance to try them, do it!  See more at www.heirlooms.org
Bred for FLAVOR not looks, these Heirloom tomatoes, called Ugly Ripe Tomatoes, are a celebration of what tomatoes were before they were bred for looks and mass production.  These tomatoes are softer, wrinkled and misshapen.  But there is no core like a regular tomato and they are sweet, juicy, and simply superb!  The flavor of these unique tomatoes is so exceptional that they are quickly becoming the gourmet favorite among chefs and consumers alike.  The tomatoes are picked at the peak of ripeness and color and have vibrant crimson color inside. Because of the possibility of bruising, they are hand picked into tubs and then hand packed into individual "spongy" sleeves and should be kept in those protective holders until you're ready to eat them.
Sun Dried Tomatoes can be reconstituted in a little warm water or broth or used as is, cut into slices or bits and add to pasta or salads for an intense delicious flavor.
