About Us

I am a mom. Trying to create a healthy environment for my family and my children’s future. Tired of the slim assortment, not to mention the sometimes mushy quality and high price of organic produce around, we figured there had to be others like us who wanted a nice selection of good quality organic produce at a reasonable cost.  (I couldn't even get organic lemons half of the time!)  Delicious Organics was born.  And your interest and orders allow us to offer greater selection and better prices of the delicious organics that we find.  So YOU are part of the About Us and we thank you.

Delicious Organics is a small family-based company trying to make a big difference.

When we choose to offer a product, we do considerable research into the product and the company.  Our goal is to make your life simpler because you have enough to do.  We read labels.  We ask questions.  We (and other members) taste or use the product before we offer it.  By choosing to order from us, you are supporting the local economy, organic farmers locally, organic and biodynamic farming practices everywhere, healthier standards for farm workers and their families, poor communities in other countries that use organic farming as a means to improve and create educational opportunities for their children, a healthier future and environment for us and our children.  We are honored that you shop with us and take our job very seriously because we know we are feeding families, ours included, and creating a stronger, brighter future.

Five years ago I was so frustrated grocery shopping with my toddlers.  They would pick things off the shelf and ask if they could have it “please, mommy, please.”   I had a hard enough time trying to sort through the piles to find good quality organic produce while at the store; inevitably I would sigh and succumb to the pressure in order to keep them quiet.

We decided my husband would do the shopping instead of me and I’d make a list (I even had the list in order of the aisles to make it easy for him!) but he’d always come back and tell me that they didn’t have organic bananas and organic lemons, organic sweetened condensed milk, and organic bread flour.  I was growing more frustrated.

I joined a coop hoping that would offer me a better selection and value.  Some weeks I thought, “wow, look at everything we got today!” but many weeks I had the reality “gosh, we sure did pay a lot of money for potatoes again.”  And I STILL had to go to the grocery store to get everything else I needed for the week.

I dreamed of a store where I pick from a huge selection of organic fruits and vegetables.  I wanted the prices to be reasonable and the quality great.  I wanted to read information on produce that was new to me and recipe ideas; so often I would go to the store and see a new fruit or vegetable but be afraid to try it.  I wanted it all delivered to me to avoid the lines and frustration of carrying in crying tired kids while trying to put away the ice cream before it melted.   I searched online and found nothing; Publix Direct has just stopped delivering and had very little organics anyway.

So I finally decided that I would run a coop of a different sort.  I gulped in fear when I got the pallet delivered to my door from a local distributor.  I made a sheet with food facts about each item, zucchini, for example and easy recipe ideas, I put it on a web site (the early pages still exist there explaining all about each fruit or vegetable we’d offer; I stayed up all night to create the first pages on each fruit and vegetable!) and sent out an email to friends.  We ate a whole lot of zucchini that first week but slowly it was catching on and friends loved that they could pick and choose exactly what they wanted instead of getting a box, and they loved that they didn’t have to commit any time (that they didn’t have in their busy life) to our group – and we enjoyed having the foods we wanted for our family.

Now we offer over 9000 items including the largest selection of the freshest organic produce at prices below retail for delivery to your home or office.  We always choose local first.  We personally go out regularly to a variety of local farms to pick up produce.  We offer unique and hard to find items as well as the products you need weekly.  We stock grassfed meats, organic grassfed dairy, organic breads and bakery items, organic baby foods, organic juices, organic frozen meals, freshly prepared meals, kosher organic poultry, fair trade organic coffees and chocolates, millet breads, healthier organic snacks for kids, raw foods and snacks, organic energy bars, environmentally safe cleaning products, safer personal care items, organic and healthier options for pets, and more.

No more frustration in finding organics, no wasted money in fuel driving out to the store, no more impulse buys or purchases to appease the kids, no more time waiting in line and shopping, no more carrying it all back in the house and putting it all away only to find you’ve forgotten something you needed.  Our driver will even help you unpack it all so there aren’t even bags to put away!  Now it’s just CLICK (check your cupboard – I can’t be the only one who would buy something I thought I needed only to learn I had a new one in the cupboard already) – CLICK (check recipes and plan your meals for the week) – CLICK (revel in the delivery of gorgeous produce and more! Customers tell us it’s like Christmas when our driver comes to the door!  Even my kids get excited to see what we got each week (yes, even I get a weekly delivery).

We think of ourselves as the best kept secret in south Florida.  We deliver from the Keys all the way to West Palm Beach.  We are proud to be an important part of our south Florida community employing people full time, supporting our local organic farmers, donating weekly to food banks, educating people on healthy living, saving families time and money, and offering delicious organics every day.

The long(er) story:

I love to cook and bake for my family and friends. I insist upon the very best ingredients, organic, of course, for flavor and healthfulness. I was quite frustrated at the limited organic produce at the stores around here.  It seemed every time I went, there were far more choices for conventional produce than organic.  I dreamed about a place that had a great selection of gorgeous produce at a reasonable price.  I wanted it delivered to me.  I wanted helpful information on how to store my gorgeous produce and some tips on cooking.  I looked everywhere for such a place in South Florida and couldn't find it.  Finally, one fateful day when I wanted to use the zest of a lemon for pancakes (try it - oh, it really picks them up!  Also great in blueberries for the syrup!)  and could not find an organic lemon, we decided that was it.

We had been part of a co-op but it was not large enough to command a wonderful assortment.  So, starting with those core group of friends, I gulped and placed a bigger order based upon what we wanted not taking into consideration that I was ordering 25 pounds of zucchini for 5 people!  Okay, so now you know I'm a little on the edge about this.  Well, the produce was wonderful and we were so happy with the greater selection.  We e-mailed and talked about it and within a few days only 10 zucchini were left.   Okay, so I have 10 pounds of beets leftover and had to make 3 peach cobblers with all the leftover peaches from the 1st order, but we started and we were on our way.  That was over a year ago.

I am SO excited about having such a selection of organic produce for myself and being able to offer it to others.  I am thrilled that we finally have a choice.  I am honored that you order your organic produce and grocery items with Delicious Organics.  We pack each bag with the same attention we used in picking out our own produce for our family at the stores.  It's funny because, what's the saying, the shoemaker's children don't have shoes.  Well now, if something isn't gorgeous, well, then, our family eats it so we buy it for ourselves.  If an apple drops, that gets put into our fridge.  If something isn't quite right with an item, we make it right.

We are an organic specialty delivery service and we function much like a co-op or buying club in south Florida.  We cooperate in a preorder system that allows us to have minimal waste and therefore keep prices low.  Unlike a typical co-op, we don’t have the frustrations of having to sell off an entire box before we order it.  When there's some interest, we bite the bullet and buy the box.  Unlike a coop, you get to choose what you want to buy instead of having a box created for you.  If you don't mind a surprise box and want an even better value, we offer coop boxes where you can pick up a great box of delicious organic produce and you can easily add on other grocery items.  We include recipes with many of the boxes since a fruit or vegetable may be new to you.  I find new ways to use all the extra fruit and vegetables we have on hand; I post recipes as we test them, further enhancing the site and our service.  Members send in their favorites too for posting with their name.  We are a community of people who care and support one another.

Most people choose to get a weekly delivery or pick up every week, but you may order when you like or choose to order every other week.  We offer more products regularly based upon request.  Many members do the majority of their grocery shopping with us now, having the luxury of having it delivered right into their kitchen.  No driving to the supermarket, no looking for a parking space, no frustration in not finding organic produce, no frustration in reading a million boxes or wondering which one works or tastes best, no risk of inevitably choosing the longest line, no time searching for your car in the parking lot or getting stuck in the rain, no driving back, no schlepping back and forth to get all the bags into your kitchen.  The only thing you have to do is help unpack and put it away - oh, and figure out what to do with all that extra time!  A challenge we're sure you're up for!

You are a big part of Delicious Organics.  You allow us to offer a great selection of the finest organic produce for our families.  You allow us all to purchase this wonderful selection at better prices as we grow and we pass on the savings to you as our way expressing our appreciation.  You will help shape Delicious Organics.  We thank you and are honored by your patronage.
